As I was reading Sebastian Foti's views on technology in the classroom or the absent of technology, I thought about all the classrooms that I have been placed and in every classroom, I have seen computer stations. Following up with his statement on "productivity tasks," I have witnessed in two of my practicum classrooms the students working on powerpoint presentations. Yes, the students used Word and PowerPoint but they also utilized the internet for research on topics to complete lessons or assignments.
ReplyDeleteMr. Foti does bring to attention that software exists for almost any productivity task, and yes, I too agree that there is a lack of computer education because even I don't know all too much about computers myself but then again, isn't that the reason for software applications, for convenience? (just a personal thought).
I also like that the text brings to perspective the three categories of contribution of computer-assisted instruction:
1. Using the computer to build knowledge.
2. Using the computer to practice and apply social studies skills.
3. Using the computer to communicate.
