Finish reading Chapter 5, pages 178-201. The chapter contains some great information for you. Be sure to make notes. Also, turn to page 454, Lesson plan 22, read through the lesson, and complete the activities in the Lesson Development section and the Follow up section. The objective of this lesson is as follows "Students will learn how to use high-quality websites to locate themselves on the planet where they live..."

Feb. 19th
Do you believe students should memorize all 50 states and capitals?
Think about this question and then respond below in comments section. Do not read the chapter until you answer the question.
Then read Chapter 5, pages 163-177. This should take you about 20 minutes. Take notes on the Map and Globe skills that are needed in Social Studies.
After reading the pages, turn to page 169, look at figure 5.1. You will create your own map grid of the state of North Dakota. You can use the same questions found on figure 5.1 but relate the questions to ND. Or you can create your own 3 questions to coincide with your ND map grid. Be creative. You can use a computer generated grid or draw on a paper using a ruler. Be creative with this. Do not copy from the web, make it original and your own. Bring to class on Tuesday Feb. 19th.

Thursday Feb. 14th
Take a look at page 161 question #4, look at the 2 lesson plans that were displayed in chapter 4, then think about how the teacher would differentiate instruction in both of the lessons. Write your explanations below. This is a great activity to really take a look at how lesson plans are constructed in the Social Studies area. Please take your time and think about how you would differentiate instruction for both of the lessons. Your resonse will be due by 12:55 pm on Feb. 14th.

Chapter 4
Hello,
Read through Chapter 4-History, Geography, and the Social Sciences. Read through Picture This on page 116 before you begin reading the chapter. It gives you great insight as to what the chapter is about. Also read the conclusion on pages 160-161. Take about 20 minutes to read through the chapter. Look at the Key Concepts on pages 116, make sure you can answer and define the terminology.
On page 128 is a reflection question. Take your time and really think about the question and reflect thoroughly. Post your response to the blog comment section below. Post your comments by Feb. 12 at 12:55pm. Also Phase 1 of your Social Studies Unit is due on Tuesday as well. Make sure you answer A-G. Type your Phase 1 and hand in at beginning of class. Points for this assignment are 35.

For Thursday, Feb. 7th, Read through Chapter 3-Democratic Citizenship Education. Take a look at the Key Concepts found on page 70, Democratic Citizenship, Allegiance, Deliberation, Voting, Community Service and Action, Citizenship Knowledge, Democratic Values, and Democratic Dispositions and Virtues, understand what these terms are. Use a reading strategy to read this part of the chapter. I dont expect you to read the entire chapter but I do want you to understand the Key Concepts that are being presented. Also on page 70, the authors give a great example of what Democratic Education looks in the classroom under Picture This.
After reading, respond to the Reflection question found on page 87, put your answer on the blog comment section below. Post by 12:55 pm on Thursday Feb. 7th.
